The Symphonic Line was developed in 2012 with much input from Mr. Ed Stephan, a long-time customer and now the timpanist of the Pittsburgh Symphony. The Symphonic Line sticks typically are made on tapered carbon fiber handles, but I can also make them on straight carbon fiber handles as well as on wood or bamboo handles. Typically, each pair is color-coded at the base of the head, but, at no additional cost this can be moved to the butt end of the stick, if you prefer, to make them instantly identifiable if you use a stick tray. The color coding also can be omitted altogether. These sticks also can be supplied with 6” long molded rubber grips at additional cost. Please see the Prices link for costs and options.
S-1. White stripe. Large-headed stick for use especially on larger drums in the set. Three -seam sewing using soft, white German felt. Maximum warmth and roundness of sound (Example: Opening of Brahms 1st Symphony).
S -2. Red felt-covered core. True cartwheel stick sewn with soft, white German outer felt over the red felt-covered core. Similar to my P-2 stick but with a slightly thinner head. Softest pair in the Symphonic set. Beautiful soft sound, great for soft rolls on all drums.
S-3. Red stripe. Basically the same head shape and composition as my P-3 stick. Outer covering is soft, white German felt. A great all-around general purpose pair of sticks.
S-4. Red/Black stripe. A head type in between the general purpose and the medium hard sticks. Soft, white German felt sewn in a parachute style; thin, disc-shaped core. Very good for passages that transition from medium playing to medium hard, articulate playing.
S-5. Green stripe. Medium hard. 1 ¼” disc-shaped core with American felt sewn in a three-seam style.
S-6. Blue/Green stripe. Medium hard stick with 1 1/8″ diameter disc-shaped cork core. Thin German felt sewn in a three-seam style. Very good for soft articulate playing and for Mozart, Haydn and early Beethoven symphonies.
S-7. Yellow stripe. 1 1/8″ diameter disc-shaped wooden core. American felt soft side out with three-seam sewing. Articulate stick, medium hard to hard.
S-8. Orange stripe. 1 1/8″ disc-shaped wooden core. American felt hard side out, three-seam sewing. Very articulate.
S-9. Light blue stripe. 1″ diameter x 3/8” thick wooden core. American felt, hard side out, parachute sewing style. Both loud and soft articulate playing.
S-10. Green outer felt. 1 ¼” disc-shaped wooden core covered with thin green outer felt. Very articulate and good for loud, rhythmic passages.
S-11. Chamois pair on 1″ diameter by 3/8″ thick wooden core. Maximum articulation for “period” playing.
S-12. Wood. 1 1/8″ diameter wood ball. A 1 ¼” disc shaped core can be substituted for the wooden ball, if you prefer, at no additional cost.
